John Pardon is a Professor at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics, joining as a permanent member on September 1, 2022. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at Stanford University (2015–2016) and as Professor at Princeton University (2016–2022). He earned his A.B. in Mathematics from Princeton in 2011 as valedictorian and his Ph.D. from Stanford in 2015 under Yakov Eliashberg.
- Education:
- A.B. in Mathematics, Princeton University (2011)
- Ph.D., Stanford University (2015)
Pardon’s research bridges geometry and topology, focusing on problems like knot distortion, group actions on three-manifolds, and pseudo-holomorphic curves in symplectic manifolds. His work addresses foundational questions in geometric topology and symplectic geometry, including solutions to the Hilbert–Smith conjecture and Edmonds’ smoothing conjecture.
His scientific achievements have been recognized with prestigious awards: the Frank and Brennie Morgan Prize (2012), Clay Research Fellowship (2015), Packard Fellowship (2017), Alan T. Waterman Award (2017), and the Clay Research Award (2022).
