John Page's research explores critical perspectives on property law, with particular emphasis on property diversity, public property, and the legal personhood of nature. His work examines how property concepts shape our understanding of community, obligation, and sustainable urban design. He investigates the intersection of property law with environmental concerns, spatial justice, and Indigenous perspectives on land and territory. His research has evolved from examining theoretical foundations of property to addressing contemporary challenges related to environmental governance, river rights, and the legal status of nature in the Anthropocene.
Professor Page's publications reveal a consistent trajectory toward expanding the boundaries of property law to address contemporary environmental and social challenges. His recent work demonstrates increasing interdisciplinary engagement, particularly with geography, environmental studies, and Indigenous legal traditions. A notable trend is his focus on legal personhood for natural entities, especially rivers, and how this concept intersects with spatial justice and decolonial approaches to law.
