John O. Havard is a Professor at Binghamton University in the Department of English, General Literature and Rhetoric. He also holds a courtesy title with the Translation Research and Instruction Program (TRIP).

Professor Havard specializes in 18th-Century British Literature and Romanticism, with research interests in Transatlantic Studies, Literature and Politics, and Critical Theory. His work examines the intersection of political estrangement and literary production during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, particularly in the context of authors like Byron and Mary Shelley.
His selected publications include the book Late Romanticism and the End of Politics: Byron, Mary Shelley and the Last Men (Cambridge University Press, 2023) and Disaffected Parties: Political Estrangement and the Making of English Literature, 1760–1830 (Oxford University Press, 2019). He is currently preparing a new edition of Mary Shelley's The Last Man for Penguin Classics, featuring a 4000-word introduction and editorial apparatus.
