John N Edwards is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Physics at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). He currently serves as the occupational radiation safety program manager for the Northwestern Medicine Chicago Proton Center in Warrenville, IL. His expertise spans radiation safety, radiotherapy treatment planning, and radiological emergency response. He has been an active Radiological Operations Support Specialist (ROSS) with FEMA and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security since 2018, supporting first responders in radiological incidents.
Education: MHP in Health Physics from IIT (2019); B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from University of North Carolina Asheville (2005). Prior to his current role, he spent 8 years in accelerator operations at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab).
Professional Affiliations include the American Academy of Health Physics (Associate Member since 2020), Health Physics Society (Member since 2016), and American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). He has held leadership roles in the HPS Midwest Chapter and IIT’s HPS chapter, including President (2020) and Alumni Representative (2019–2020).
His work focuses on enhancing radiological preparedness through collaboration with state/local governments and emergency response agencies.
