John Morrow is a Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London within the School of Economics and Finance. He holds affiliations with the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP) and the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). His research focuses on firm responses to economic policies, particularly in developing countries, emphasizing productivity, trade dynamics, and subsidy impacts. Morrow completed his PhD in Development Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has taught at institutions including King’s College London, LSE, and the University of Essex. He has been recognized with awards such as the FIW Young Economist Award and ETSG Chair Jacquemin Prize. His teaching includes International Trade at the MSc level and Trade and Firm Behaviour for MRes students.
Education: PhD in Development Economics (UW-Madison, 2010), MS in Economics (UW-Madison, 2006), MS in Mathematics (UIowa, 2004), BS in Mathematics and Economics (UIowa, 2003).
Research interests span trade policy, firm productivity, spatial economics, and development economics. Notable projects include analyzing subsidy-induced labor spillovers and firm adoption patterns in product markets. His work has been published in leading journals like the Journal of Political Economy and Journal of Industrial Economics.
Recent awards include three teaching nominations (2020–21) and an HEA Fellowship (2020). Morrow has advised PhD students such as Elodie Andrieu and currently mentors Meng Yu Ngov, Nick Khaw, and others. His grants include funding from STICERD and the Portuguese Science and Technology Fund.
Labs/Teams: Active in research networks including the Centre for Economic Policy Research and collaborative projects such as the InsTED Workshop series. Organizes academic events and country walks for professional engagement.
