John Morgan is a Professor of Geography at Emory & Henry College's Environmental Studies Department. His research focuses on cultural geography, particularly landscapes of the U.S. South, food systems, and vernacular regions. He has authored books including The Log House in East Tennessee and The Unknown World of the Mobile Home, and is co-authoring a forthcoming work on collards in the American South with Edward Davis.

Research Interests: Morgan's work emphasizes field-based methodologies, including studies of relict lime kilns in Appalachia and England, historic building surveys in East Tennessee, and the social geography of collards in Southern food culture. He actively involves students in field projects such as the Coyote Invasion of Southwest Virginia and surveys of historic structures.
Teaching: Teaches courses like Weather & Climate, U.S. & Canada Geography, Conservation of Natural Resources, and leads travel study programs to the American West and Gulf Coast.
Future Research: Investigating the history of paving brick manufacturing in the U.S. South. His lab/fieldwork collaborations include projects like Liming Appalachia comparing lime kilns across regions.
