Professor John Mee is a leading academic in property and equity law at University College Cork (UCC), where he has held positions since 1989, including Dean of Law (1999–2000). He holds degrees from UCC, Osgoode Hall, Trinity College Dublin, and the National University of Ireland. His research focuses on Land Law, Equity and Trusts, Family Property, and legal history, with a strong emphasis on law reform. He has authored influential books like The Property Rights of Cohabitees (1999) and Land Law (2011), and his work has been cited globally by courts in the UK, Singapore, Canada, and Ireland. Mee has contributed to legislative reforms, including Ireland’s Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009 and the Civil Partnership and Certain Rights and Obligations of Cohabitants Act 2010. He has also engaged in international conferences and legal education initiatives, and his teaching interests span Land Law, Equity, and Cohabitation Law. His recent articles address topics like resulting trusts, succession law, and proprietary estoppel.
His professional affiliations include the Society of Legal Scholars and the Irish Association of Law Teachers. Mee has delivered over 50 conference presentations worldwide, including at Oxford, Cambridge, and Harvard. He reviews for journals like the Modern Law Review and Cambridge Law Journal.
