John McMorrough is a Professor of Architecture at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, University of Michigan. As a partner of studioAPT, he operates at the intersection of architectural practice and cultural theory, focusing on the extended field of architecture encompassing buildings, images, arguments, and installations.
- Current faculty at Taubman College since 2015
- Teaches courses in Architectural Representation, History of Architecture, and speculative design
- Formerly taught at Yale, Harvard, and University of Applied Arts Vienna
His research explores the relationship between design and culture, emphasizing architectural scenarios as dynamic systems. Publications appear in Perspecta, Log, and MAS Context, with recurring themes in urban design, media integration, and architectural theory.
Recent works include the 2021 publication Evolving Situation addressing curriculum innovation, and the 2018 co-edited volume Possible Mediums examining design media. His 2017 article engages Robert Venturi's ideas on complexity and contradiction.
