معرفی
Professor John Maclennan is a Faculty Fellow at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, serving as Professor of Igneous Petrology in the Department of Earth Sciences since 2020. As an Official Fellow since 2005 and Academic Champion for Careers, he bridges academic excellence with career development. His research focuses on volcanic and magmatic processes, integrating fieldwork, microanalysis, and computational modeling.
Research Interests include:
- Quantitative analysis of magma generation, transport, and eruption dynamics
- Diffusion chronometry for pre-eruption magma timescales
- Carbon and volatile budgets in the Earth's mantle
- Climate change feedbacks in magmatic systems
- Seismic and geochemical studies of mantle plumes
Scientific Awards include the President’s Award and Bigsby Medal from the Geological Society of London. He was awarded the Pilkington Prize in 2014 for teaching excellence.
Teaching Contributions encompass first-year Natural Sciences lectures, advanced courses on mantle melting and magmatic processes, and field trips to Skye, Spain, and Iceland. He supervises MSci and PhD students on volcanic systems.
Global Research Collaborations span submersible studies in the Pacific, volcanism analysis in Hawai’i, Galápagos, Reunion, and lunar geology. His work connects geophysical indicators with petrological records of magmatic unrest.
