معرفی
John MacMicking is a Professor of Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunobiology at Yale University School of Medicine, and an HHMI Investigator. He holds dual appointments in the Department of Microbial Pathogenesis and the Department of Immunobiology, with affiliations to the Yale Systems Biology Institute and the Human and Translational Immunology Program.
Education: BSc (Honors) in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from Australian National University (1990); PhD in Immunology from Cornell University (1997). Postdoctoral training at The Rockefeller University as an HHMI LSRF Fellow. Promoted to Associate Professor in 2010 and tenured in 2014, becoming an HHMI Investigator in 2015.
Research focuses on interferon-induced defense mechanisms, particularly the role of guanylate-binding proteins (GBPs) and IFN-inducible GTPases in cell-autonomous immunity against intracellular pathogens. Key contributions include elucidating GBP's role in inflammasome activation, SARS-CoV-2 defense, and malaria control.
Notable awards include the HHMI Investigatorship, Alumni Award of Distinction (Cornell), and fellowships from Mallinckrodt Jr., Searle, and Kenneth Rainin Foundations. Active in editorial roles for journals like Nature Immunology and Journal of Experimental Medicine.
Lab work emphasizes cryo-electron tomography to visualize GBP defense complexes and collaborations with structural biologists like Erdem Karatekin and Joerg Bewersdorf.
