John M. Oksanish is an Associate Professor in the Department of Classics at Wake Forest University. He holds a B.A. and M.A.T. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and an M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. from Yale University. His teaching focuses on Epic, Latin Historiography, Latin Epistolography, and Cicero studies.
Dr. Oksanish specializes in late Republican and early Imperial prose literature, with research interests spanning Virgil's pastoral poems to universal historiography. He is particularly interested in ancient notions of expertise and authority in civic life. His current book project examines Vitruvius's De architectura within Augustan literature and culture.
His research has been supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Wake Forest Humanities Institute.
