معرفی
Dr. John M. Hanchar is a Professor and University Research Professor at the Department of Earth Sciences, Memorial University of Newfoundland, within the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on trace element geochemistry, geochronology, materials science, and the geochemical evolution of mineral deposits and crustal processes. He employs advanced analytical techniques such as EPMA, SIMS, and LA-ICPMS to study minerals like zircon, monazite, and apatite.
- Research Highlights:
- Investigating hydrothermal iron oxide deposits in Sweden, Chile, and the U.S.
- Characterizing volcanic ash beds in Italy and North America for stratigraphic correlation.
- Studying the petrogenesis of Cretaceous granites and lower crustal xenoliths in the Mojave Desert.
- Synthesizing minerals for radioactive waste storage and radiation damage studies in zircon.
He is affiliated with organizations including the American Geophysical Union, Mineralogical Society of America, and Sigma Xi. His work bridges geochemistry and materials science, with applications in mineral exploration and environmental remediation.
