John Lynch is a Teaching Professor and Honors Faculty Fellow at Arizona State University (ASU), affiliated with Barrett, the Honors College since 2000. He holds a Ph.D. in Zoology (Evolutionary Biology) from University College Dublin (1993) and a B.Sc. in Zoology with a Biochemistry minor (1989). His roles include advising pre-health students and serving as faculty chair in Barrett, teaching courses such as 'Human Event' and 'History of Ideas'.
His research focuses on the history of evolutionary thought, science education, creationism, and the intersections between science and religion. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles and edited volumes, including works on Darwinism debates and evolutionary morphometrics. Lynch has served on numerous university committees, including the Grievance Clearing House and University Hearing Board, and led educational initiatives to defend evolutionary principles in K-12 curricula.
Awarded the CASE/Carnegie Professor of the Year (2007) and College of Liberal Arts Distinguished Teaching Award (2000), Lynch’s service spans academic integrity, curriculum design, and national scholarship advising. His work bridges scientific history with contemporary societal issues, emphasizing interdisciplinary engagement and public understanding of science.
