Research focuses on the neurobiology of mental health, with emphasis on translational research. Key themes include glutamate receptor signaling, traumatic stress neurobiology, and novel treatments for depression and addiction. Over 300+ publications span clinical trials, neuroimaging studies, and multi-omic analyses of psychiatric disorders.
Current clinical trials include studies on psilocybin for OCD, ketamine mechanisms, and PTSD treatments. Collaborates with leading institutions globally, including the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and the VA's Clinical Neuroscience Division.
Awards include the Barbara Fish Memorial Award and National Academy of Medicine membership. Serves on editorial boards and advisory roles for major organizations like the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation and the National Academies' Neuroscience Forum.
Active in translational medicine, co-founded Freedom Biosciences to advance rapid-acting antidepressants. Leads interdisciplinary initiatives like the ENIGMA-PGC PTSD workgroup and the Yale Center for the Translational Neuroscience of Alcoholism.
