John Kambutu is a Professor of Educational Studies at the University of Wyoming, affiliated with the School of Teacher Education within the College of Education. He holds a Ph.D. (1998), M.A. (1992), and B.A. (1991) from the University of Wyoming, and a Diploma in Education from Kisii College, Kenya (1988).
His research focuses on multicultural education, transformative learning, rural education, and global education. He has designed and led international service-learning programs to Kenya, emphasizing cultural immersion and social justice. Key roles include Associate Director of Curriculum & Instruction Graduate Programs and former Department Chair of Educational Studies.
Dr. Kambutu has received numerous awards, including the 2010 College of Education Award for Outstanding Research, the John P. Ellbogen Teaching Award (2006), and multiple recognitions in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. He has authored/co-authored books, book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles on global education, social justice, and teacher preparation.
His service includes leadership roles on the Wyoming Public Radio Foundation Board, the Graduate Council, and international grant-funded projects. He has also contributed to diversity initiatives and community engagement through workshops, editorships, and over 100 conference presentations.
