John Ishiyama

John Ishiyama is University Distinguished Research Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of North Texas. He served as President of the American Political Science Association (APSA) from 2021-22, Editor-in-Chief of the American Political Science Review (2012-2016), and founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Political Science Education (2004-2012). He established the APSA Teaching and Learning Conference and directed an NSF-REU site on Civil Conflict Management and Peace Science from 2010-2020.

His research spans democratization, political parties in post-conflict environments, ethnic politics, and political science pedagogy, with regional expertise in Russia, Eurasia, and Africa. He has produced ten books and over 200 scholarly publications.

His distinguished honors include:

As current IPSA Track Co-Chair for Political Science Teaching and Learning, he maintains significant influence in global political science education.
