John House

John House is a Senior Lecturer in Photography within the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries, and Education (ACE) at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), based at the Bower Ashton campus.

His academic qualifications include a BA (Hons), MA, and PGCE. House actively participates in the UWE Photography Research Group and specializes in analog and digital photographic techniques across medium/large format, digital pre/post-production, image manipulation, and experimental mixed media.

His research explores vernacular imagery and the latent poetry within everyday moments, examining cultural identities through familiar landscapes and hidden photographic narratives. House employs conceptual and issue-based approaches, often borrowing from cliché and popular culture to construct recurring storytelling frameworks as seen in his In Amber book series.

He has secured Arts Council England funding for curatorial projects including The Shot I Never Forgot exhibition and publication, which documented photographers' most memorable images. Ongoing artistic projects encompass Cohort, Reveries, Small World Interventions, and Landmark, alongside experimental works like The Deptford Dodger and Harmonic Skeleton.
