John Henry Hansen Jr. is a Lecturer and Advisor at the University of Oklahoma and has dedicated over three decades to classical education. He has taught Latin language courses at OU for four consecutive semesters and previously designed and taught courses such as 'Ancient Greek Civilization' and 'Rise and Fall of Rome' (initiated in 2007).
- Education: Master of Arts in Classics from the University of Cincinnati and Master of Library Science from the University of Oklahoma.
His research and professional focus lies in Classical Education, curriculum development for Latin and Greek studies, and the promotion of Ancient Civilizations. At OU, he actively recruits and mentors new high school Latin teachers and serves on the board of the Oklahoma Foreign Language Teachers Association to support classical language pedagogy.
Scientific Awards:
- OU Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award (2009)
- Dean’s Outstanding Advising Award (2009)
- Outstanding Vice-President Award (2019) and Ovatio (2010) from the Classical Association of the Middle West and South
- Teacher of the Year (2000) by Westmoore, Moore Public Schools, and Wal-Mart
Advising and Leadership: Mr. Hansen advised the OU Letters degree program (winning the Dean’s Outstanding Advising Award) and served as Academic Advisor for the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity (2009–2012). He also spoke at the Society of Classical Studies’ national meeting (2011) on the value of high school classical education.
