John Healey is a Professor of Forest Sciences at Bangor University's School of Environmental and Natural Sciences. His research focuses on forest ecology, conservation, and ecosystem services, with emphasis on tropical and temperate systems. He leads modules in forest ecology, silviculture, and environmental policy, and supervises multiple PhD students. His work addresses climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable forest management. He co-leads projects like Multi-Land (enhancing agricultural productivity) and Invasive Woody Plants in the Tropics.
Research highlights include analyzing Amazonian secondary forests' role in reducing fragmentation, coral reef resilience to bleaching events, and the impact of bramble on fallow deer diets. He advises on woodland creation for carbon sequestration and circular wood use for decarbonization. His studies span global collaborations, including Ethiopia’s sacred church forests and Greece’s socio-ecological resilience.
