Tim Peters

Dr. Tim Peters is a Lecturer in Woodland Management at Bangor University’s School of Environmental and Natural Sciences and a key member of the Forestry@Bangor teaching team. He contributes to various undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including Woodland Conservation, Forestry Study Tour, and Forestry in the 21st Century, among others in forest ecology, silviculture, and social issues in forestry.

His research focuses on forest mycology, sustainable tree nursery practices, heritage fruit trees, and the role of plant-microbe interactions—particularly mycorrhizal fungi and nitrogen-fixing bacteria—in carbon cycling within temperate forests. He has investigated how environmental stressors like ground-level ozone affect tree seed germination and mycorrhization, and how nursery practices influence windthrow risk in planted trees.

His recent publications include a 2024 dataset on seed germination under elevated ozone and a 2021 commissioned report for the Welsh Government on alternative conifer species for British forestry. These works reflect a strong trend toward climate-resilient forest management, ecological sustainability, and the integration of scientific research into practical forestry solutions.

Dr. Peters also serves as the Woodland Manager of Llyn Parc Mawr Community Woodland in Anglesey, applying his academic expertise to real-world conservation and management. His work bridges academic research, teaching, and hands-on ecological stewardship, contributing significantly to sustainable forestry practices in the UK.
