John Garton is an Associate Professor in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Clark University. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Trinity University and a Ph.D. in Art History from New York University, where he specialized in European Renaissance and Baroque art with a minor in Latin American Art.
His research spans Renaissance and Baroque art, Latin American art and architecture, European portraiture, Venetian art, Renaissance engineering, designed landscapes, and Pre-Columbian studies. Current projects include a book on Vicino Orsini's sacro bosco in Bomarzo, studies of Leonardo da Vinci's grotesque heads, and research on Aztec deity Xipe Totec.
Dr. Garton has received notable awards including the Sherman Fairchild Arts + Technology Grant and Digital Humanities Summer Institute Scholarship. His teaching includes courses on Renaissance-Baroque art, Latin American art, and specialized seminars on Leonardo da Vinci and Caravaggio.
