Dr John Franklin is a Senior Lecturer in Research Methods at Teesside University’s School of Health and Life Sciences, specializing in research methodologies, chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), and evidence synthesis. He has been at the university since 2009, leading modules in research design and data analysis across health programs. His research focuses on wearable technology for ME/CFS management, systematic reviews in emergency medicine, and pain science education for ethnically minoritised groups.
Education:
- PhD (2013–2020): Teesside University, exploring physical activity and ME/CFS
- MSc Sport and Exercise Science (2007–2008)
- BSc Applied Exercise Science (2004–2007)
Research Interests: Chronic fatigue, meta-analyses, wearable devices (e.g., HRV monitoring), and interdisciplinary healthcare approaches. His work bridges clinical practice and academic research, emphasizing practical applications of evidence-based methods.
Collaborations: Active in international projects on ME/CFS and POCUS in emergency settings. Leads the MRes Clinical Research program and chairs the university’s Early Career Research forum.
Advising & Grants: Supervises four doctoral students exploring topics like carbohydrate loading in hip fracture patients and post-stroke rehabilitation. Co-leads a major project on physical activity and ME/CFS funded since 2019.
