Dr John Farrant is an Honorary Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Manchester and the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Centre for Heart and Lung Magnetic Resonance Research (MCMR), appointed since February 2021. His research focuses on inherited cardiac conditions and cross-sectional cardiac imaging, with a particular emphasis on clinical trials impacting cardiac health outcomes. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Manchester, alongside a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) and a Master of Research in Medical Sciences from the same institution. Dr Farrant is certified by the British Society of Echocardiography and holds membership in the Royal College of Physicians. He actively contributes to professional societies including the European Society of Cardiology, British Cardiovascular Society, and British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance.
His expertise spans Cardiology, Cardiac Imaging, and Inherited Cardiac Conditions. Notable research areas include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and myocardial fibrosis. Recent work involves developing imaging-free prediction models for cardiac fibrosis and establishing multicenter reference standards for cardiovascular MRI. Collaborations focus on leveraging electronic health records to refine heart failure phenotyping and improve diagnostic accuracy.
Dr Farrant has authored over 15 peer-reviewed articles, addressing topics such as drug trial design, copper chelation therapies, and pandemic-related respiratory management strategies. His contributions to cardiovascular research aim to bridge clinical practice and translational science, with a focus on improving patient outcomes through evidence-based interventions.
