Dr. John Edwartowski is a pianist, improvisor, scholar, and educator affiliated with Wayne State University (WSU), the University of Michigan, and Washtenaw Community College (WCC). He holds a PhD in Music Theory from the University of Michigan (2021), an M.M. in Music Theory and Composition from WSU (2013), and a B.A. in Music from WSU (2004).
- Research Focus: Improvisation, creativity, and fluid texts in musical theatre, combining theories from Commedia dell'arte, opera, melodrama, and film scoring.
- Teaching Experience: Music theory (tonal and post-tonal), group piano, ear training, and improvisation workshops, including roles at WCC, WSU, and the University of Michigan.
- Professional Roles: Former Resident Musical Director for The Second City (Detroit), leader of The Ad Hoc Orchestra at WCC, and contributor to theatrical revues and educational programs.
