Dr. John E. Queener is a Professor in the Department of Counseling Psychology at The University of Akron, School of Counseling. He specializes in multicultural psychology, focusing on interventions for African American males and resistance to multiculturalism. He holds leadership roles, including Program Director at the Minority Behavioral Health Group and President of the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the Association of Black Psychologists.
Education: BA from The College of Wooster, MA from The Ohio State University, and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The University of Akron.
Research Interests: Multicultural counseling, culturally specific interventions for marginalized groups, and addressing mental health disparities. He actively promotes inclusive excellence in education and mental health services.
Awards: Multiple recognitions for diversity advocacy, including the 2014 Community Service for Mental Health Award and the 2010 Pan African Students Association Professor of the Year.
Advising & Grants: Advises graduate students and leads initiatives to enhance diversity in psychology. Former co-training director of the Collaborative Program in Counseling Psychology.
Labs/Teams: Directs the Minority Behavioral Health Group, a nonprofit addressing mental health disparities among underserved populations.
