John Delery

John Delery is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Management at the Sam M. Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas, where he also holds the Raymond F. Orr Chair in Management. He is a leading scholar in strategic human resource management and organizational behavior, with a strong record of research, teaching, and service excellence.

Dr. Delery’s research centers on the strategic management of human capital, HR system design, and employee selection, with a focus on how these practices influence organizational performance and profitability. He has conducted significant research on HR practices in the trucking industry, family firms, and LGBT-friendly workplaces, contributing to both academic theory and managerial practice.

His recent publications show a consistent trajectory in examining the strategic alignment of HR practices with organizational goals, often using advanced empirical methods. His work frequently appears in top journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, and Human Resource Management.
