John Delacruz is a Professor and Director of the Creative Track in the Advertising program at the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, San José State University, part of the College of Humanities and the Arts. He is an Adobe Education Leader and has also taught at Miami Ad School in San Francisco. He develops industry-education partnerships and leads national and international collaborative student projects.
His academic focus lies in teaching, learning, and creativity, particularly how experiential learning environments influence creative disciplines. He emphasizes mentorship and peer learning within creative teams, and integrates creative and strategic thinking into real-world problem solving to enhance student employability.

He is a passionate ocean steward and environmental advocate, using communication campaigns to support grassroots nonprofit organizations. His personal interests include stand-up paddleboarding and photography, often centered on nature and environmental themes.
John holds a background in British Art School education from the late 1980s, originally as a graphic fine artist specializing in photography and printmaking. He transitioned into teaching graphic design before advancing into advertising education.
