John Cummings

John Cummings serves as Lecturer of Art specializing in Ceramics and Foundations within the Department of Art at Clemson University's College of Architecture, Art and Construction. His office is located in 2-G17 Lee Hall.

His educational background includes an M.F.A. from the University of Mississippi and a B.S. in Studio Art from the University of Southern Indiana. Prior to his academic appointment, he gained significant professional experience working as an artist assistant for Jun Kaneko, where he developed expertise in constructing large-scale ceramic installations.

Cummings maintains an active studio practice in Western North Carolina, with particular focus on atmospheric firing techniques. His research interests bridge traditional ceramic methods with contemporary large-scale sculptural approaches, informed by both academic training and professional studio experience.

Since 2019, he has balanced his Clemson position with work as a professional artist and Adjunct Professor at UNC Asheville, demonstrating strong commitment to both artistic practice and art education within the regional creative community.
