John Carroll

Dr. John Carroll is a Lecturer at South East Technological University's Wexford Campus, affiliated with the enviroCORE research center. He holds a PhD from University College Dublin (awarded 2005) and specializes in agricultural sciences with focus on crop physiology, soil management, and alternative crops. His research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in sustainable agriculture.

His primary research investigates optimization techniques for grain processing in alcohol production, specializing in Irish whiskey manufacturing. Recent work employs response surface methodology to enhance milling, mashing, and cooking parameters for wheat and rye. This industrial-applied research bridges agriculture and food engineering to improve spirit yield efficiency.

Dr. Carroll is currently accepting PhD students and collaborates with researchers on grain-related projects. He contributes to environmental impact studies through enviroCORE, examining sustainable practices for organic and heritage grain cultivation in Ireland.
