John Cantine is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies in Production within the Film and Media Studies program at the University of Pittsburgh’s Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. He combines academic instruction with freelance work as a video editor, script consultant, and independent film/video artist. His teaching focuses on hands-on filmmaking and media production.
Education:
- MFA in Film Production from Ohio University
- BFA in Creative Writing from Carnegie Mellon University
His research and creative work centers on filmmaking practices, screenwriting, and post-production technologies. He has authored the textbook Shot By Shot: A Practical Guide to Filmmaking and specializes in technical aspects of video editing, camera operation, and sound design.
