John Campbell is a Senior Lecturer in the Department for Health at the University of Bath, with an adjunct faculty position at Edith Cowan University. He joined Bath in 2016 as a 50th Anniversary Prize Fellow to develop research in exercise immunology and oncology. His work focuses on how exercise enhances anti-cancer immunity and reduces cancer incidence in humans, alongside its impact on cancer immunotherapy. He co-chairs Cancer Research at Bath (CR@B) and collaborates with Bath Royal United Hospital and international partners.
Education: PhD in Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences (University of Birmingham, 2010). Postdoctoral training at the University of Birmingham Medical School, contributing to the development of the Seralite test for free light chains.
Research Interests: Exercise effects on cancer immunity, cancer immunotherapy, haematological malignancies, and exercise interventions in chronic diseases. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Funding: Principal Investigator grants from Cancer Research UK, Medical Research Council, World Cancer Research Fund, and others. Co-investigator grants from NIHR, NASA, and other bodies.
Notable Projects: Evaluating exercise programs in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and multiple myeloma, developing clinical trials for exercise interventions, and investigating exercise’s role in enhancing immunotherapy efficacy.
Awards: Cancer Research UK Pioneer Award, 50th Anniversary Prize Fellow (University of Bath).
