Professor John Bowen is a leading scholar in Nineteenth-Century Literature, currently affiliated with the Department of English and Related Literature at the University of York. His academic career spans major research into Charles Dickens, Victorian novelists, and literary theory, with over fifty publications including books like Other Dickens and Palgrave Advances in Charles Dickens Studies. He serves on the Advisory Board of the Clarendon Edition of Dickens’s works and has supervised eleven PhD students on topics ranging from Dickens’s Christmas numbers to Victorian anti-Catholicism.
