John Bono is a Clinical Professor of Information Systems and Associate Department Chair at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. He also serves as Associate Academic Director of the MS Information Systems program and Director of the Smith Analytics Consortium. He holds a PhD in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University, an MS in Electronic Commerce from University of Maryland Global Campus, and a BS in Computer Science from The Catholic University of America. Dr. Bono has over 20 years of teaching experience and 25 years of industry experience in for-profit and non-profit sectors.
His research interests include information systems design, systems development methods, and technology adoption within organizations. He has taught courses at multiple institutions, including George Mason University and Marymount University. Notable professional certifications include Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute and Certified Information Privacy Professional/IT.
Dr. Bono has received awards such as the Legg Mason Teaching Innovation Award (2022) and Unsung Hero (2024). He actively engages in university service, including roles on the University Senate committees and honor councils. His recent grants include funding for courses like BMGT428 and industry collaboration initiatives.
