John Bartlett is a Core Faculty member at Duke University Medical Center, holding positions as Research Professor of Global Health, Professor of Medicine, and Professor at the School of Nursing. He is also Professor of Medicine at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC), Tanzania. His work focuses on HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, and mental health, with a strong emphasis on capacity building in Tanzania and mentoring young faculty globally.
Dr. Bartlett leads the AIDS Research and Treatment Center and directs projects such as the Medical Education Partnership Initiative-Junior Faculty (MEPI-JF) in Tanzania. His research spans sociobehavioral sciences to improve HIV care, mobile health interventions for antenatal care, and curriculum development in medicine and nursing. He collaborates with institutions in Tanzania and the U.S., addressing global health challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.
His recent publications highlight innovations in HIV diagnosis, PrEP uptake among adolescents, and strategies to enhance healthcare education in low-resource settings. Dr. Bartlett’s efforts bridge clinical practice, education, and policy to advance global health equity.
Advising and grants: He mentors faculty at Duke and in Tanzania, supporting their academic and professional growth. His projects receive funding to strengthen medical education and address health disparities. Collaborations include the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College and the Duke Center for AIDS Research.
