John Barclay is a Senior Lecturer in Healthcare Leadership and Coaching at the University of Cumbria's Cumbria School of Medicine. A retired Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) Lieutenant Colonel, he brings extensive experience in people development across NHS, MoD, nuclear industry, and local councils. He currently leads transformative leadership programmes for the Defence Medical Leadership Programme and London Ambulance Service, as well as the Cumbria and Derbyshire Health and Wellbeing UG Dip and a coaching/mentoring module in the practice framework scheme.
- Qualifications: FHEA (Fellow of the Higher Education Academy), MSc in Management and Leadership in Health and Social Care
His academic focus centers on establishing professional communities of practice in healthcare, particularly how leadership programmes foster sustained professional connections among students. He emphasizes creating sustainable learning communities through collaborative models.
Recent external roles include voluntary Chairman of Telford Hornets Community Rugby Club.
