John Aughenbaugh, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in the College of Humanities and Sciences, Department of Political Science. His work bridges judicial branch dynamics with administrative law and public teaching innovation.

Research focuses on the administrative philosophy of retired Supreme Court Justice Byron White, comparative impacts of Justices Jackson, White, and Scalia on U.S. administrative law, judicialization of public administration processes, and organizational dynamics of the judicial branch. He also explores political science pedagogy, including public teaching and podcast-based civic education tools.
Recent publications analyze Governor Youngkin’s administration and qualified immunity reform debates, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement with law, policy, and education. His podcast, Civil Discourse, co-produced with VCU Cabell Librarian Nia Rodgers, earned the ALA Documents to the People Award.
