معرفی
John A. Parsons is a Professor of Physics at Columbia University, based at Nevis Laboratories in Irvington, NY, and affiliated with the Department of Physics. His work spans teaching, research, and leadership in experimental physics.
His research focuses on experimental particle physics through the ATLAS experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider, investigating fundamental particles and forces. Previously, he contributed to the DZero experiment at Fermilab's Tevatron collider. His work advances understanding of high-energy nuclear interactions and detector systems like the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeter's Front End Board.
Parsons leads Columbia's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Nevis Labs, mentoring students in hands-on research. He teaches core undergraduate courses including Mechanics (Physics 3003) and Electronics Laboratory (Physics W3083), integrating experimental methods with theoretical foundations.
Based at Nevis Laboratories, he collaborates with international teams on ATLAS data analysis and detector development, contributing to Columbia's high-energy physics group. His campus office is in Pupin Hall (720) while his primary research occurs at the Nevis facility (Building 103).
