His research integrates linguistic theory with biblical interpretation, specializing in Biblical Hebrew verbal system analysis, Northwest Semitic languages, and wisdom literature exegesis. Cook's methodology bridges philological precision with theological application, particularly in Psalms and poetic texts, to demonstrate how textual worlds interpret contemporary realities.
Recent publications reveal a sustained focus on Hebrew pedagogy and handbook resources, with co-authored textbooks establishing new standards in language instruction and Baylor Handbook contributions providing critical exegetical tools for difficult biblical texts like Qoheleth and Aramaic portions of Daniel.
Cook mentors students in biblical language acquisition and hermeneutics, emphasizing wisdom development through textual engagement. His collaborative work with Robert Holmstedt on Hebrew resources represents a major scholarly partnership spanning over a decade.
He directs Hebrew instruction at Asbury while maintaining the ongoing Valency Dictionary of Classical Hebrew project, accessible through his academic website.
