Johannes Groen is a PostDoc at the NanoImaging Core Facility of the Pasteur Institute, collaborating with the Dynamics of Host-Pathogen Interaction group. His work focuses on advanced cryo-microscopy techniques, particularly correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) and soft X-ray tomography (SXT), to study cellular structures in their natural state without cryo-thinning. He contributes to projects like HORIZON-MSCA-DN CLEXM under PI Jost Enninga, aiming to bridge resolution gaps in multimodal imaging for biomedical applications.
His research integrates super-resolution fluorescence imaging with electron and X-ray tomography, enabling nanoscale visualization of host-pathogen interactions and nanomaterial localization. Publications highlight protocols for cryogenic and hybrid sample preparation, 3D SIM-X-ray correlation, and applications in myocardial fibrosis and bacterial nucleoid remodeling. Groen’s methodologies have been tested at synchrotrons like Diamond Light Source and ALBA, emphasizing 70 nm spatial accuracy and 30 nm half-pitch resolution.
