Dr. Johannes Diesing serves as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Political Science, Justus Liebig University Giessen, affiliated with the Professorship for Germany’s Political and Social System/Comparing Political Systems. He teaches courses on Germany's political framework, protest movements, and political participation while coordinating departmental internships.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD in Political Science from University of Rostock (2012-2019) focused on New forms of political action using the example of the Occupy Movement
- Master's degree in Political Science/Philosophy from University of Rostock (2008-2011) examining Hannah Arendt's political concepts
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science from University of Rostock (2003-2008) analyzing critical theory
Diesing's research investigates Germany's political system, political theory, and social movement dynamics through qualitative methodologies. His work critically examines civil disobedience in refugee protests, urban occupation tactics, and non-conventional political participation, emphasizing how marginalized groups challenge institutional power structures. He explores intersections between state legitimacy, civic activism, and movement sustainability in contemporary democracies.
His publication trajectory (2013-2019) reveals consistent engagement with social movement theory, particularly the Occupy phenomenon and refugee protests in Germany. Diesing analyzes civil disobedience as both disruptive tactic and constitution-building practice, highlighting spatial dimensions of protest in urban settings. His methodological rigor in qualitative analysis contributes to understanding how movements sustain collective identity amid political fragmentation.
Supported by a Friedrich Ebert Foundation scholarship (2012-2015), Diesing has presented research at major conferences including ECPR General Conference and IPSA World Congress. His internship coordination role (2015-2022) and diverse teaching portfolio demonstrate commitment to academic mentorship and practical political education.
