Johanna O'toole

Lieutenant Colonel Johanna O'Toole serves as Director of the Advanced Logistics Readiness Officer Course at the Air Force Institute of Technology's School of Systems and Logistics, located at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia. In this capacity, she oversees curriculum development, management and instruction for Headquarters Air Force Directorate of Logistics, Engineering & Force Protection's senior Logistics Readiness Officer professional development course, producing 32 graduates annually who fill over 120 Joint Duty Assignment Listing positions across 11 geographic and functional combatant commands.

Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Boston University (2006), a Master of Business Administration from Norwich University (2015), and a Certificate in Advanced Digital Education and Technology Application from Columbia University (2016). She has completed numerous military professional development courses including the Air Command and Staff College and Joint Planners Course.

Lt Col O'Toole's research and professional interests focus on military logistics systems, readiness operations, and defense acquisition management. Her work directly supports the Air Force's mission to develop logistics professionals capable of operating in complex joint environments across multiple combatant commands.

Throughout her career, she has received significant military decorations including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and Joint Commendation Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, among others.

Lt Col O'Toole has extensive leadership experience, having commanded the 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma and the 345th Training Squadron at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia. She has deployed three times in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, providing logistics support to Combined Joint Task Force-101, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan, and NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan.

She leads a vital educational program within AFIT's School of Systems and Logistics that prepares senior officers for critical logistics roles across the Department of Defense, connecting military education with practical readiness requirements for joint operations worldwide.
