Johanna Kalb is the Dean of the University of San Francisco School of Law, effective July 1, 2024. Previously, she served as Dean and Professor of Law at the University of Idaho College of Law, where she led significant advancements in enrollment diversity, clinical programs, and fundraising. She also held roles as Associate Dean at Loyola University New Orleans School of Law and Visiting Associate Professor at Yale Law School. Her academic career includes affiliations with the Brennan Center for Justice and the National Civil Justice Institute.

Her research focuses on constitutional law, international human rights, and the law of democracy. She co-authored the textbook Human Rights Advocacy in the United States and her work has been published in journals such as the Yale Law Review and Stanford Journal of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.
Dean Kalb has received the 2024 Diversity Award from her law school's diversity committee. She actively contributes to academic governance through her roles on the Board of Trustees of the Law School Admission Council and the Deans Steering Committee of the American Association of Law Schools.
Her professional service includes directing the Arthur Liman Public Interest Program at Yale and serving as a fellow in the Democracy Program at the Brennan Center. She clerked for federal judges and is admitted to practice in Mississippi and New York.
