Johanna Horppu is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Faculty of Management and Business, Tampere University, specializing in Marketing within the Business Studies department. Her work focuses on cultural consumer research, particularly examining the interplay between consumers, their data, and technologies.
Her research interests include interpretative consumer research, technology, consumer privacy, consumer data, and qualitative methods. She employs qualitative approaches to deeply understand consumers' lifeworlds, with a specific focus on how privacy experiences are embedded in socio-cultural environments and arise from entanglements of consumers, data, technologies, cultural imaginaries, and affects.
Horppu's recent publications explore sociomaterial dimensions of privacy, metaverse imaginaries, and the extension of consumer privacy research through consumer culture theory. Her work often utilizes creative methods such as imagination workshops to investigate complex privacy issues in digital contexts.
She actively contributes to the Customer Oriented Marketing Research Group at Tampere University, advancing interdisciplinary research at the intersection of marketing, technology, and consumer culture.
