Professor Johanna Hanefeld is a Professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), affiliated with the Department of Global Health and Development within the Faculty of Public Health and Policy. Her research focuses on health policy analysis, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, emphasizing the role of power dynamics and networks in policy implementation. She has conducted extensive work on HIV, migration, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and global health governance. Beyond academia, she has held applied roles at the World Health Organization (WHO) and currently leads international work at the Robert Koch-Institute in Germany, serving as its acting vice president.
Her career bridges academic research and practical public health interventions, exploring how political and economic factors influence health policies. She is recognized for her contributions to understanding the challenges in translating evidence-based policies into effective implementation, particularly in resource-limited settings.
