Johanna Elumn, MSW, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Yale School of Medicine in General Internal Medicine. She serves as Director of the NYKS Justice Lab and the JUSTResearch Training Program, and is core faculty of the SEICHE Center for Health and Justice. Her research focuses on the intersection of incarceration, sleep, and health disparities using mixed methods and community-engaged approaches. She holds a PhD in Social Welfare from The Graduate Center/CUNY and an MSW from Columbia University.

Her work examines sleep health among incarcerated populations and post-release health outcomes. She leads interdisciplinary teams and trains community members with incarceration histories to participate in research. Notable projects include the Sleep Justice Study and the JUSTICE cardiovascular disease cohort study.
Awards include the NIMH Postdoctoral Fellowship (2016). Her research addresses healthcare accessibility for justice-impacted individuals and the role of trauma in correctional settings. She collaborates with policymakers and community stakeholders to design equitable healthcare solutions.
