Prof. Johann Spandl leads the Inorganic Chemistry working group at the Free University of Berlin's Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry. His research focuses on polyoxometalates, molecular magnetism, and transition metal chemistry, with emphasis on structure-reactivity relationships in metal alkoxides and coordination polymers. He oversees the IR Service Department, managing ATR spectroscopy equipment and student lab safety protocols. Courses taught include General and Inorganic Chemistry lectures and practical courses for diverse student groups (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Geosciences, Bioinformatics). Contact: Room F06, Tel: +49 30 838 52405.
- Research Group: Specializes in synthesis and characterization of inorganic materials with applications in magnetism and catalysis.
- Teaching: Coordinates laboratory courses for multiple disciplines including teacher training programs.
- Lab Management: Oversees instrumentation including mid- and far-infrared spectroscopy setups.
Publications emphasize novel syntheses of metal-organic frameworks and exploration of high oxidation state transition metal species. Collaborations include work with Dr. R. Clérac (molecular magnetism) and Dr. M. Menzel (structural analysis).
