Johan Niskanen is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Thematic Studies (TEMA) within the Technology and Social Change (TEMAT) unit at Linköping University. His research focuses critically on energy, technology, and economic systems within societal transformations, particularly analyzing sustainable innovations like passive houses and circular economy practices. He holds a bachelor's in environmental science and a master's in political science, with prior experience in energy project management.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on sustainability, urban planning, and environmental science across undergraduate and graduate programs. Current research projects include studying repair practices in circular economies and the political economy of infrastructure development. He participates in research groups like STRIPE (socio-technical infrastructure politics/environment) and TEMAT, focusing on environmental and technological transitions.
