Ida Grundel is an Associate Professor and Docent at Linköping University's Department of Thematic Studies (TEMA), specifically within the Technology and Social Change (TEMAT) unit. She serves as Programme Director for the Bachelor's Programme in Urban and Regional Planning and teaches courses in human geography and urban planning at both the bachelor's and master's levels. Her research focuses on sustainable development, regional innovation systems, and infrastructure challenges in shrinking municipalities, supported by grants from the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas. She leads the 'District heating in shrinking municipalities' and 'Role of urban planning in transport sustainability transitions' projects.
Her work emphasizes transformative spatial planning, energy transitions, and citizen-driven solutions for climate-neutral cities. She contributes to the EU's ELABORATOR project on sustainable urban mobility and supervises a PhD student in the Just Transitions graduate school, which addresses equitable climate transition strategies. Key collaborations include TEMAT's interdisciplinary research environment and the TEMA department's focus on technology's societal impacts.
Dr. Grundel's publications span urban mobility, infrastructure governance, and bioeconomy policy, reflecting her expertise in bridging academic research with practical policy applications. Her research highlights the interplay between technical systems, societal values, and environmental sustainability in shaping future urban landscapes.
