Johan Hegardt is an Associate Professor in Archaeology at Uppsala University and currently affiliated with Södertörn University's Department of Culture and Education, Art History. His research focuses on museums, memory, and heritage, particularly examining transformations in historical consciousness and cultural institutions around the Baltic Sea post-1989.

His work spans the history of archaeology, critical museum studies, and heritage studies, with publications in both Swedish and English. He participated in the ACHS 2016 session on museums and nation-building after the fall of the Iron Curtain.
