Joelle Frechette is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. She holds the Lieselotte and David Templeton Endowed Chair in Chemistry and serves as Vice Chair of Graduate Education in her department.
- Ph.D., Princeton University (2005)
Her research focuses on soft materials, interfacial science, and adhesion, addressing challenges in antifogging/self-cleaning materials, ink control for printing, and fluid-fluid interfaces in consumer products and pharmaceuticals. Her work leverages micro/nanoscale interfacial properties for emerging technologies.
Notable awards include:
- NSF CAREER Award (2008)
- 3M Non-tenured Faculty Award (2008)
- W.H. Huggins Excellence in Teaching (2010)
- ONR Young Investigator Award (2011)
- Fellow of the American Chemical Society (2017)
She leads the Frechette Lab, which explores interfacial phenomena in materials design, and has been recognized for advising excellence in student organizations like AIChE/SBE.
